TGIF Challenge #46 and Stampin’ Celebration Challenge #124

Hi Crafty Pals,

This week is March break for us so yesterday we just lounged about and today I decided to get cracking on some crafting.

I was quite busy today to make up for it and made one card for the two challenges and one video. Unfortunately when I looked at the video I had zoomed in so much that you couldn’t see half of what I was referring to so it all ended up being scrapped!

Anyway practice makes perfect and I learnt a lesson about setting up my camera 🙂

This week I decided to combine two challenges TGIF Challenge #46 (see sketch below) and Stampin’ Celebration Challenge #124 (see inspiration image below).

I came up with

Birthday card for TGIFC46 SCC124

The colours on the inspiration challenge made me think of a masculine card (not sure why) and as I had wanted to crack open my A Nice Cuppa Stamp Set and the Cups & Kettle Framelits I knew that somehow I’d combine them and make it work.

Ingredients

Designer Series Paper and Card Stock: Wild Wasabi, Night of Navy and Whisper White

Stamp Sets: A Nice Cuppa and Wetlands

Punches/Die Cuts: Cups & Kettle Framelits and Decorative Label

Classic Stampin’ Pad®: Night of Navy

Archival Stampin’ Pad®: Basic Black

Textured Impressions Embossing Folders: Chevron and Modern Mosaic

Accessories: Whisper White Baker’s Twine

Flowering Fields for Stampin’ Celebration Challenge

Hi Crafty Pals,

This is my second challenge of the week and this time it is for Stampin’ Celebration SC123.

The sketch I used for inspiration is

SCIpix-021 sketch

I decided to change the orientation of the ‘stripe’ from landscape to portrait as I wanted to test drive the Flowering Fields Sale-A-Bration set I got for free last week as my order was over $60.

Flowering Fields Mothers Day

Flowers always makes me think of Mother’s Day. We’ve been in Canada almost 8 years, but I still think of Mother’s Day being in March (like it is in England) with the beautiful daffodils so I am always ready!

One of my favourite things about this card is the fact that I originally coloured the stem Old Olive, but when I inked up the flower head with Calypso Coral it kind of mixed the two together. I thought that the result was a cool gradation from one to the other – yeah for happy accidents!

Ingredients

Designer Series Paper and Card Stock: Old Olive, Very Vanilla, Calypso Coral and Pretty Petals Designer Paper Series Stack

Stamp Set: Flowering Fields and Teeny Tiny wishes

Punches/Die Cuts: Bitty Butterfly and Word Window

Classic Stampin’ Pad®: Old Olive and Calypso Coral

Accessories: Stampin’ Dimensionals and Updated Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack

Wondrous Wreath for Fab Friday Challenge

Hi Crafty Pals,

Sorry I was not about last week, but for the first time in ages I was supplying everyday so as you can imagine I was pretty exhausted. However I did manage to get into my craft room and unpack my latest goodies!

This week I decided to take part in two challenges which were both based on sketches so I’ll be posting both today.

The first was for Fab Friday 81 and the sketch is shown below my effort.

Wonderous wreath Thanks

I wanted to ink up the Wondrous Wreath stamp set and try and use it for a non-holiday occasion and I love the Wonderful Wreath Framelits as a substitute for circles. I felt that the flowers looked quite spring like and I am always in need of thank you cards so I made it for my ‘just in case’ stash.

Typing for my challenges

Hi Crafty Pals,

I got out one of my favourite sets today to use in my challenge entries. I really like Tap Tap Tap for thank you notes and saying hi.

I checked out a few challenges this week and was immediately drawn to the inspiration challenge from Stampin’Royalty SR#316 as the images sang Pool Party to me (one of my go to colours), but I came a bit unstuck with the gold as I don’t have any foil sheets or doilies yet so opted for embossing and the gold sequin trim.

I also really liked the sketch challenge over at TGIF Challenges #TGIFC42 so paired the two challenges together and came up with

Tap Tap Tap challenge card

I rotated the TGIF Challenge sketch (see below) to a portrait orientation and added the bow as I felt the typewriter wasn’t quite big enough. I’m also amazed that I willingly cut it out – I try to avoid fussy cutting.

#TGIFC42 Sketch challenge

I just wanted to wish all my Canadian friends in Ontario “Happy Family Day” and with weather like we have had over the last few days crafting was a far better option than venturing out into the -37 C (with the wind chill) we had on Saturday brrrr.

Ingredients

Designer Series Paper and Card Stock: Pool Party and Very Vanilla

Stamp Sets: Tap Tap Tap

Punches/Die Cuts: Bow Builder

Classic Stampin’ Pad®: Pool Party

Getting masculine for valentines

Hi Crafty Pals,

I have been busy checking out different challenges and decided to create a card that can be entered into two challenge blogs this week. Pals Paper Arts (#286) gave us a great sketch

Pals Paper Arts 286 sketch

and Stampin’ Royalty (#315) asked for Cards for Guys.

So as I still needed to make my hus (love you hun!) a card I thought why not try my hand at a combo. The card I came up with was

Guy Greetings and Go Wild Designer Series Paper

I have had the Guy Greetings stamp set for a while, but not inked it up. Like I have said before masculine cards always seem to be difficult for me.

I have been playing around with a new backdrop for my card photos and thought the wood grain looked pretty good with the brown/black tones in the card. Please let me know what you think as after all this blog is meant for you to enjoy 🙂

Without spoiling things for him too much I have also made a cute gift card holder, but no gift card yet!

Ingredients

Designer Series Paper and Card Stock: Go Wild Designer Series Paper Pack, Crumb Cake, Real Red, Whisper White and Early Espresso

Stamp Sets: Guy Greetings and Better Than E-Mail

Punches/Die Cuts: Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits

Classic Stampin’ Pad®: Early Espresso

Birthday Card – Hand Stamped Sentiments #230

Hi Crafty Pals,

My crafting bug seems to be back on track and as I am having so much fun trying out my new products I decided to hop on the challenge wagon again. I find that having a sketch or a colour palette to work with really gives me inspiration.

The other thing I like about challenges is you sometimes stumble on designers or fellow crafters who you’ve not seen before and then it gives you another opportunity to learn tips, techniques and see how others interpret a sketch.

The Hand Stamped Sentiments Sketch #230 that I am playing along with this week is

hss-230-sketch-0013

I came up with

Honeycomb Happiness birthday

I used the “One Cute Chick” sentiment from Barnyard Babies on the inside as I thought it was so fitting.

It was my first try at using the Blender Pens and I am quite pleased with how it turned out. I think this chick is one of the cutest images that is available at the moment, but if you do love it as much as me it is only available as a Sale-A-Bration item until 31st March so don’t miss out.

Ingredients

Designer Series Paper and Card Stock: Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper Stack, Daffodil Delight, Calypso Coral and Whisper White

Stamp Sets: Honeycomb Happiness and Sprinkles of Life

Punches/Die Cuts: Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits

Classic Stampin’ Pad®: Basic Black, Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point and Calypso Coral

Loving my new stuff

Hi Crafty Pals,

Hooray, my starter kit arrived about 2 weeks ago and I have been busy rearranging my retired paper, stamps and inks to make way for my new stuff.

I bought 2 sets from the Occasions Catalogue and 1 set from the Annual Catalogue as well as some Designer Series Paper, punches and the Fine-tip Glue. So when you add these to my old stamp sets that haven’t retired I am lucky to still have a lot to play with.

I placed a second order which also arrived, I am most excited to try out the Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits as I have been eyeing this up since I first saw it.

Once I had got organised I found time to get crafting (after all that is the most important part). I have made a few cards so far
